||The department has existed since the foundation of the Faculty of International Relations and was reorganized from the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of Natural Sciences. Its founder and the first head was the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Tetiana Petrivna Lutsyshyn. After the tragic death of T. P Lutsyshyn in 2004, the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor N. M. Petrovska. was appointed to the position of the head of the department, and since 2010 the staff of the department is headed by the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor O. P.  Cherniak. The members of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation ​ train professional translators in English, French, Spanish, German and Chinese in the field of International information and public communications, International relations, International economics and International business. In addition, the students of the Faculty of International Relations study the Polish language, which is taught by teachers of the Department of Polish Studies and Translation of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism. At the initiative of the department, the language center “Sweet” was established at the faculty, which offers a primary and in-depth level of learning a number of foreign languages. The work of the language centre is coordinated by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor  Y. I.  Sinchenko. The students’ language and translation practices abroad are organized within the activities of the department. The staff of the department holds the Week of Foreign Languages ​​at the Faculty of International Relations every year, which prepares students to participate in quest competitions, brain-rings, all-Ukrainian Olympiads, Internet conferences and so on. During the academic year, the teachers of the department regularly improve their linguistic and pedagogical skills during the meetings of the monthly methodological and linguistic seminar. The department is developing a lively scientific activity. In particular, since 2010 the International Scientific and Practical Seminar “Language Universals in Intercultural Communication” has been held annually, which covers linguistic, culturological and methodological issues. A collection of scientific theses, based on the materials of the seminar, is published. The teachers of the department manage the work of student research problem groups, whose activities contribute to the deepening of the study of foreign languages. There is an English language theater-studio “Modern Globe”, at the Department of Foreign Languages ​​and Translation, the founder of which is the Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor N. M. Petrovska. The theatre unites students and teachers of the Faculty of International Relations into one team.  It stages performances of classical and modern English language authors.
