About the department

The history of the department's development began in 1940 with the establishment of Lutsk Teacher's Institute. At that time, physical education at the institution was an integral part of the educational process. In 1950, the Teachers' Institute was re-organized into a pedagogical department and the Department of Physical Education was created on its base. The participant of World War ІІ Levytskyi R.I. was appointed a head of the department. The department consisted of 6 teachers. Their activity included the development of students’ main physical skills, enhancing health state, formation of moving skills, implicating them to active participation in physical and sport life of the institute Subsequently, new types of sports (handball, fencing, swimming, table tennis, sports orientation, biathlon, gymnastics) were introduced into the students' physical and fitness activity, which helped to equip the institute's national teams to participate in regional and national competitions.Sstudents have repeatedly won prizes. In 1975 Zavatsky V. was appointed head of the physical culture department. The quantitative and qualitative composition of the department has grown, and teachers with academic titles and academic degrees (Hitik L., Paliga V., etc.) have improved their research work. Particularly involved in the scientific activity of teachers: Baibula V., Polyakovsky V., Gavrileiko N., Demchuk S., Tkach P. Substantial work was carried out by teachers who participated in the collective scientific theme "Improvements mass recreational, physical and sports work with students of the Pedagogical Institute”, coordinated at the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of the USSR. In 1979, Zavatsky V. was transferred to the post of the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education, and Demchuk S. was elected Head of the Physical Education Department. Teachers of the department annually held a sports contest of students of the Institute of thirteen sports, as well as a sports contest of a group of health (teachers and employees of the institute). Tourism and local lore have become popular with student youth. In 1994, the Volyn State University named after Lesya Ukrainka was established at the LDPI. The candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Tsyos A., who made a significant contribution to the scientific potential of the department, was appointed the head of the department of physical education. In 1999, the Department of Physical Education was renamed the Department of Health and Physical Education. Associate Professor Tkach P. was appointed Head of the Department in 2001.In 2003, this position was occupied by the Ph.D. in Physical Education and Sports, Associate Professor Volchynskyi A. In 2010, the stadium of the Sports Core University was renovated and certified to international standards,. A modern playground with artificial cover, which classes can take place during the year was built in the courtyard of the educational building N 1 .

Educational work:

The main task of the department is the organization and implementation of a high level of educational work in the discipline "Physical Education" using innovative technologies. Due to the deterioration of the physical condition of young people, as evidenced by scientific studies both in our country and abroad, one of the main tasks of the department is to increase the interest and motivation to exercise in physical culture and sports in students. Also, the priority activity of the department is the organization of physical-fitness, educational and sports-mass work of students through the introduction of innovative methods in physical education. The physical education program includes aqua aerobics, wellness swimming, soccer, scandinavian walking, fitness, soccer, frisbee, badminton, powerlifting, gymnastics, cheerleading, football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, and table tennis, chess teaching methods (especially for students of the Faculty of Teacher Education and Social Work).

Main directions of the scientific research of the department:

Scientific areas of the department:

  • Regularity of origin and development of physical education in the territory of Ukraine;
  • Organization and methods of preschool and primary school age physical education;
  • Improving the system of students physical education.

In the context of which the teachers of the department deeply investigate the problems of physical education and factors of physical development and improvement of health of students and students. Problematic scientific groups: There are two student problem groups working at the department:

  • Ukrainian folk games in the system ofpreschool children physical education . (Group Leader: Associate Professor Volchinsky A.)
  • Formation of motivation for physical exercises of student and student youth. (Group leader: Associate Professor Pantik V.)

The purpose of the problem groups is to study and understand in detail the features of physical development and the health of students and students.
